Trang Vu
Trang Vu is a Lecturer in the Department of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, Faculty of Information Technology, Monash University. Her research lies at the intersection of natural language processing and machine learning, driven by a central vision of building AI systems that are not only capable but also safe, fair, and accessible to diverse communities.
She is particularly interested in how foundation models can be aligned with human values across languages and cultures, and how we can make the development and deployment of these models more efficient and inclusive. Her work spans LLM reasoning and alignment, culturally-aware language technologies, AI safety, and efficient learning methods, contributing to a future where the benefits of AI are shared more broadly, equitably and responsibly.
Research interests:
- Trustworthy and aligned AI: developing reliable and safe AI systems through alignment, faithful reasoning, and robust evaluation
- Fair, multilingual, and culturally aware NLP: building language technologies that work equitably across languages, cultures, and diverse communities
- Continual and data-efficient learning: enabling models to learn and adapt over time with limited data and computation
